Yes, you heard us right, cassava. It’s a flour that’s milled from the yucca plant. However, these organic, gluten-free crackers come to us by way of Sweden. Swedish crackers tend to be more earthy, dense, and at times even bitter (in a good way). These particular crackers are made up of that cassava flour and a mix of six different types of organic seeds (sunflower, sesame, flax, chia, pumpkin and hemp). The flavor is undoubtedly earthy, and the texture is satisfyingly crunchy. It’s almost like a savory granola.
The Swede behind the crunch is Birgitta Durell, who used to make the homemade crackers to sustain herself at cookware trade shows. When people started asking about the crackers instead of her cookware, she thought she might be onto something. It wasn’t until she met Dianna Dar, editorial director of an e-commerce lifestyle brand and a trained chef, that Cult Crackers became a reality. Gluten-free, paleo-friendly, and vegan, their product is appealing and available to all range of hungry Mouths.
Tip of the Tongue:
Pack them as a hearty snack for hiking. Pair with strong cream cheese or bleu cheese for an impressive cheese plate. For a gluten-free-friendly crunch on salads, substitute crumbled pieces of crackers for croutons.
And before you toss away the box post-snacking, we’d like to point out that the box is compostable!
